The Ampati Assembly Bye-Election in Ampati (ST) will be a triangular contest between the Congress, NPP and an independent candidate. Both the Congress and NPP are aggressively campaigning for their respective candidates. Meanwhile, the United Democratic Party (UDP) and other partners of the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) have decided to support the NPP candidate. The Bharatiya Janata Party has fielded Bakul Ch. Hajong for the Ampati (ST) Constituency, but the chances of BJP winning the polls in Ampati (ST) are bleak. NPP is confident that their party will win the elections as their candidate, Marcuise Marak defeated the then sitting MLA Deborah C Marak by a good margin.
